Angular Contact Ball Bearings
Angular contact ball bearings comprise of inner and outer ring raceways that are displaced relative to each other in the direction of the bearing axis. This design allows these bearings to accommodate combined loads, i.e. simultaneously acting radial and axial loads.
The contact ball bearings are unidirectional and bidirectional and are able to withstand mild radial loads and strong thrust, making them highly suited for high-speed applications.
In comparison to a Deep Groove Ball Bearing, Angular Contact type generally carries more number of rolling elements (balls), and is capable of sustaining radial, axial or composite loads.
Types
There are two types of Angular Contact Bearings:
- Single-row bearings: They have high thrust capacity in one direction
- Double-row bearings: They can accommodate thrust in both directions
